One With the One
How Suffering Taught That We Are Eternal And Are Loved
Emily Jean Entwistle

Book Review

A woman tells of learning how to heal and move forward after a brief trip to the afterlife in Entwistle’s debut memoir.

“This is not a story of ‘woman who triumphs over adversity,’ ” declares the author late in this remembrance, but her account is indeed marked by periods of trauma. She tells of enduring unspeakable abuse by her adoptive parents and then burying her memories of it deep inside herself in order to survive. As an adult, she got married and had a successful career, but she says that the repressed recollections began to wreak havoc on her physical health; she notes that “even thinking about such things led to the anxious feeling I might lose control, and to lose control was to lose all I had worked for.” She later suffered a massive stroke; at this time, Entwistle writes, she died and had a profound experience of feeling one with “the Source”: “There was a pause in time,” she explains, “and as if in the space between the in-breath and the out-breath, I left my body.” She survived and decided to change her life, beginning a “progression from dis-ease to wellness.” From here, the author outlines events that led to her present state of spiritual awareness and presents tools for readers to begin a similar journey. Entwistle effectively addresses the reader directly in a conversational tone, as in a description of a visualization technique: “Do you think you could try this, too? Here are guidelines I can offer: Begin by asking yourself, ‘What do I desire more than anything else?’ ” As she enthusiastically offers guidance, she’s also careful not to alienate readers who may be skeptical by acknowledging, for instance, that altering one’s mindset does not come easily: “I’m not saying that it isn’t hard work to change one’s beliefs, to ignore the input of the senses, and the plans one’s logical mind might suggest.” That said, even readers who don’t find Entwistle’s methods applicable to their own lives will find the book engaging.

An often compelling spiritual remembrance strengthened by the author’s understanding that not everyone’s quest looks
the same.

Emily had the courage to survive, heal, and transform her life through many unthinkable heartbreaking challenges when most people would have died.  She shares this amazing journey and so much valuable information from her heart and soul.  Thank you God for guiding her.

God’s plan always has been one of enticing the soul to learn how to make good decisions and live for a purpose greater than yourself.  “ONE WITH THE ONE” is a must read book for seekers wishing a deeper understanding of how our problems are merely good gone wrong.  All of us seek the big miracle when we finally right this wrong and allow God’s Spirit to be manifested through us and be transformed.  Emily takes you through her own experiences and openly lets her reader see her pains as well as her struggles that led her to the ultimate awareness:  the inner peace of mind that tells us we are part of God.  Thank you, Emily.

While most of us are content with the limits of our outer Technicolor distractions, there are those of us that either by circumstance or choice enter the convoluted meanderings of our inner worlds.  Emily invites us as voyeurs to examine the excruciating details of her personal tortures in the first half of the book, but hang in there because as the Country song states:  “It’s a Long Hard Ride.”  The “good stuff” does come, first slowly then rushes to fill our inner senses.  Yes, what generous discoveries she makes.  She presents as a lone crusader:  A Don Quixote seeking to solve the riddles of the fountain of pain and suffering.  The important bit is that the gleanings she shares are the tested and true inner therapies and healing techniques.  We must look no further – she lays them at our feet so that when we encounter such demons in our own constitution we can make a hastier recovery.  Emily points the way:  “I meditate.  I meditate.  I meditate.”  The raging battle of outer vs. inner is eventually quenched by surrender.  We can live with the illogical premise of how Emily, once a flame becomes a flower.

This book is well written and easy to relate to.  Teaches about various tools and methods that she used to grow spiritually and go from a broken person and becomes a whole person over time.  The author demonstrates how we can get past the suffering that seems to be the human condition and heal ourselves slowly but surely.  She truly explains in a clear fashion how she overcame suffering as well as well as death more than once.  It is pretty amazing for sure.
